So what is www.bigaussieroadtrip.com all about? Well... hopefully, by the time we are done, it will be a comprehensive journal about a family of 5 who have travelled around Australia to see the sights and also do some volunteer work around the country! In Mid 2010 we started thinking about what it would take to fulfil a life-long dream... We wanted to bundle up our 3 kids, pack-up the house, jump in the car and hit the road - probably for about 12 months. It sounds so simple ... At the start of January 2013, after almost 15 months on the road; we finally completed Our Big Aussie Road Trip. We hope that you enjoyed following our adventures, trials and tribulations as much as we enjoyed having them!

Time stands still for no man...woman and 3 kids!

WOW, I can't believe how busy the last 6 months have been!  We were planning to be updating this blog as we went along in the planning/preparation phase, but it is so hard fitting a blog update between work, 3 Kids, school, pre-school, maintaining a house & garden, inovlement with church, a small social calendar, sickness, and general life.  I can't believe how time just evaporates!

Not to say that we haven't been progressing our planning for the Big Aussie Road Trip, but we haven't been updating this blog :(

In a nutshell, we've changed vehicles (see our "Vehicle + Van" page) to something that will hopefully get us around this little island we live on.  We've been thinking about plenty of things for when we're away (see our "Planning" page).  We've also been thinking about how we keep our Kid's education going when we're away (see our 'Kid's Education' page).

So we've made a few inroads into our journey, but I'm glad that we aren't trying to squeeze this into 2-3 months - that would be a nightmare!

I'll try to do a better job updating this blog in the coming weeks/months.

I wanted to share some of the links and people who have been inspiring us as we have been leading up to embarking on this adventure.  I am sure you have already found these pages and people, because they contain some FANTASTIC advice, information and detail about their own adventures.  I am sure some of the comments that we make will echo theirs, but we are also sure that we will have our own 'spin' on things...  So the 2 main resources, we have used so far are: http://curryfamilyadventures.wordpress.com/ and http://www.greataussieroadtrip.com.au/

Where there's a will, there's a way

Firstly, I wanted to apologise about the anonymity of the posts that will be put on this blog for the first few months.  The reason for the anonomous posting is that we have not told anyone about our proposed Family Trip around Australia, and so we want to be anonymous for a while until we are ready to quit work, lay the news on the Grandparents, and hit the road (which could be 10-12 months away from the date of writing, but we'll see how itchy our feet get in the mean time).

So, down to business... what's this blog going to be about?  Well hopefully, by the time this blog is finished, it will be a comprehensive journal about our family trip around australia.  That's the plan anyway!

At this stage, all we know is that we want to spend some quality family time at the same time as fulfilling a life-long dream...  We want to bundle up our 3 kids, packup our house, buy a camper trailer or caravan, jump in the car and hit the road for about 12 months (or whenever the budgetted money runs out!).  It sounds simple doesn't it?  However, even only having thought about this plan for a few weeks, we are starting to realise that it's probably not quite a simple as it sounds when it comes to planning and executing our big aussie road trip (our family trip around australia)!  However, we are going to live by the motto "Where there's a will, there's a way."

We were a bit sceptical about the idea of travelling around Australia with children, but then we thought that we didn't want to let our children be the reason we didn't do this trip (justfying to ourselves that the kids need to be in a single place, a static environement while they do school and grow up).  We think that a road trip around Australia is the perfect way for the kids to learn, grow, and cement their place in our family.  We hope we're right on this point!  Nevertheless, we are pretty set on heading out into the big blue yonder (or is that big red yonder).

Hopefully, if you follow this blog, you will see it (and us) grow, and see our plans mature into actions as we make all the preparations to head off on our big adventure...

Please feel free to comment on our blog, offer your advice and your support as we make what we think is a pretty massive decision - To travel around Australia with kids!
